SCHOOL COUNSELING

The elementary years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for children and adolescents to become healthy, competent, and confident learners. Through a comprehensive and Christ-centered school counseling program at our Lower School, FCS supports students to address their social/emotional, mental, academic, and spiritual development as each child grows towards their God-given potential.

Counseling support for our students happens through individual counseling, small group sessions, classroom lessons, and responsive care including, but not limited to the following areas:

  • Anger Management
  • Anxiety & Stress
  • Bullying / Peer Conflict
  • Classroom Behavioral Issues
  • Communication & Problem Solving
  • Decision Making
  • Divorce / Family Separation / Family Blending
  • Goal Setting
  • Grief & Loss
  • New Student Orientation
  • Organization & Study Habits
  • Peer Relationships / Social Skills

Small Group Counseling

At FCS, we believe children grow best in community. Small group counseling provides students with a safe, supportive, and Christ-centered space to share, listen, and learn alongside peers their age. Through Small Group Counseling, students discover they are not alone in their struggles, gain practical coping strategies, and grow in confidence—always with Christ at the center of each conversation.

Through interactive experiences such as games, art, music, stories, and role play, students practice skills in real time. These activities remind them that God designed us for connection and uses both peers and caring adults to bring encouragement and healing.

Small Group offerings include topics such as:

  • Support for students experiencing divorce or separation
  • Practicing social skills
  • Building self-esteem, resilience, and leadership
  • Understanding and managing anger or other strong emotions
  • Support for military-connected families
  • Coping strategies for stress and anxiety

Meet the Counselor: Nikki Belcher

Lower School Counselor

Nikki holds a master’s degree in Education with a focus in School Counseling from Liberty University and is entering her fifth year working in education. She brings a diverse range of experience serving students and families throughout the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania communities.

Nikki is excited to begin her first year at Fredericksburg Christian School and is especially grateful to have three of her own Eagles as part of the FCS community. She is passionate about supporting students as they grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually, recognizing that each child is uniquely created by God and deserving of compassionate, Christ-centered care.

Nikki provides solution-focused, brief counseling to help students navigate challenges, develop healthy coping strategies, and build confidence as they grow. Her approach seeks to encourage students in light of biblical truth while meeting them with grace, compassion, and understanding. When students or families would benefit from longer-term counseling, Nikki can also connect them with trusted community resources and providers.

Nikki is grateful for the opportunity to partner with FCS families and staff as she helps students navigate the joys and challenges of growing in their faith, character, and God-given purpose.
