Woven throughout all of our Drama courses is the development of our God-given gifts in creativity and performance.
Fredericksburg Christian School’s Drama Department offers a range of elective classes for both middle and high school students that target and cover a wide variety of skills used both on and off of the stage.
Middle School Drama
7th & 8th graders are invited to participate in this course, built on recognizing our God-given gifts in performance, developing confidence in public performance, storytelling and analysis, and empathy. Students take part in actively writing skits for performances as well as evaluating the media that they interact with in and outside of school. Through character analysis and creation, students are challenged to think critically about the motivations and desires of the people around them; building a better understanding and connection with others.
High School Drama
Students in high school can choose to take Drama, 1, 2, and 3 as well as Improv as electives. Throughout the course of these classes, students learn and practice the foundations of performance, study theatre history, and experience the vast array of gifts and skills it takes to bring a full production together. We also teach about the importance of spiritual leadership, begin analyzing scripts and developing vision boards, and learn how to coach a scene. For students choose to continue their studies into advanced coursework, they’ll even have the opportunity to lead and implement various aspects of a full production, from budgeting to production plans. As part of our Improv offering, students learn to appreciate their creativity as well as that of their fellow classmates, and they get to experiment with spontaneity in a safe space. The skills learned in Drama and Improv will help develop confidence to prepare students for any career path they choose to pursue in the future.
Middle & High School Drama Club
The FCS Drama club consists of students that actively participate in productions and classes as well as those who simply enjoy theatre and production. The Drama club offers many opportunities for smaller performances, field trips, and even improv days. Drama club students can participate in school productions by studying and running all technical elements for productions, such as audio engineering and lighting design.
