Our Mission
The Resource Support Program at Fredericksburg Christian School supports K-12th grade students with diverse learning needs by partnering closely with families and teachers to address learning challenges with care and expertise, foster individual confidence and resilience, and nurture our students as they grow into the learners that God has uniquely created them to be.
Philosophy
At Fredericksburg Christian we believe that every child is a fearfully and wonderfully made gift from God (Psalm 139:14). With that belief in mind, we strive to ignite, nurture, and develop the God-given potential that lies within each of our precious students. We aspire to address the educational needs of our learners recognizing that every child is unique and that every child learns differently. Students can experience challenges academically, cognitively, or emotionally. Struggles, however, are not viewed from a lens of impairment, but rather from one of opportunity. In our weaknesses, He has made us strong (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). We believe that all of life’s challenges are an opportunity for God to manifest and honor Himself (John 9:3). We recognize the awesome responsibility entrusted to us by our Creator, and we bow before Him confessing our incompetence without Him and the guiding presence of His Holy Spirit. We acknowledge that there is no strategy or methodology that supersedes that power. Therefore, Fredericksburg Christian School seeks to maximize the learning potential of every student.

OUR SERVICES

Individualized Learning Plans
Individualized learning plans, also known as P3 Plans, are designed to address the path, purpose, and progress of each student. These plans outline specific accommodations which are implemented in the classroom setting to support students academically, personally, and spiritually. P3 Plans are created in collaboration with a student’s family and teacher. See below for more detailed information regarding student eligibility for a P3 Plan.

Resource Support
Resource support is provided in a variety of ways for students who are enrolled in the Resource Program. This includes individualized and small group instruction for students who need additional assistance or educational support. Our team can provide assistance within the classroom, or in a separate learning environment based on each student’s individual needs. The Resource Department utilizes research-based interventions and data-driven progress monitoring as we strive to help each student achieve academic and personal success.
Students at the Lower School (K-5th) may receive targeted intervention in the areas of math & language arts, executive functioning, and social-emotional support. Students meet regularly with a Resource Learning Specialist to support their academic and behavioral needs. In addition, Resource teachers collaborate with the classroom teacher in an effort to support the ongoing instruction in the classroom setting.
Students enrolled in the Resource Program at the Upper School (6th-12th) meet regularly with resource teachers during their study hall period. Students are provided with assistance to help increase their executive functioning skills including planning for upcoming assignments, assessments and projects. In addition, students are provided support to monitor grades, catch up on missing assignments, and improve study habits.
ENROLLMENT PROCESS
Eligibility
Students who have a full and current (within the last three years) educational and/or cognitive evaluation that identifies an educational deficit adversely affecting his or her success in the regular classroom are eligible for a P3 Plan. Students without an official evaluation or diagnosis can also be referred to the Resource Department due to academic, behavioral, or executive functioning concerns by a teacher or administrator.
New students applying for admission to FCS should bring all information related to an IEP, 504 plan, recommendation for evaluation, or evaluations currently underway.
The Resource Department offers a few other services in addition to those listed above.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Resource services are available by teacher or administrator recommendation only, rather than by parent request. This helps us ensure that students who truly need additional support are identified and served in the best way possible. If you have concerns about your child’s learning, we encourage you to share them with your child’s teacher so we can partner together in supporting their success.
Resource services are not included in the monthly tuition fee. These services are available at an additional cost of $150 per month. Scholarship opportunities are available for those who qualify.
The Resource Department is not equivalent to special education services. Its primary purpose is to support and empower referred students by providing targeted learning strategies and tools that promote success within the academic environment.
Student progress is reviewed on a quarterly basis to assess the continued need for support and to determine ongoing eligibility for the program.
The Resource Department does not function as a 1:1 tutoring service. In the Lower School, support is provided through a small group model. Although instruction occurs in a group setting, individualized goals are addressed during each session. In the Upper School, the typical student-to-teacher ratio is approximately 5:1. Resource teachers provide academic support and guidance; however, they do not serve in the role of a private tutor.
Support for students not enrolled in the Resource Department is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
