Alumni on the Frontlines

A special thank you to our own FCS Alumni who have been serving on the frontlines throughout the pandemic. We laud them for their commitment to their profession and honor their hard work. Thank you to these brave men and women! 

 

Yolanda (Comfort) Simmons – 1995
Nurse Practitioner – Managing Director 

Yolanda oversees the implementation of assistive technology devices for children and adults with disabilities who currently live at home, but are at risk of nursing/residential/group home placement. She also oversees medical management of these clients/patients to ensure they can maintain living in the community while maintaining their health and safety.
She directs 57 team members and is responsible for 2,300 patients who reside in the Northeast region of Virginia.  

 

 Denielle Rigoglioso – 1999
Regional Director/Licensed Therapist

Denielle established and currently directs two large mental health practices for Family Insight in Virginia Beach and Newport News. They provide outpatient mental health services and community based mental health treatment for youth, adults and families through various programs including: psychiatry, psychotherapy, ABA autism services, crisis stabilization, and intensive in-home mental health skill building. Deneielle’s team is considered essential and continued to work in the field and in the office through the pandemic. 


Mindy (Lindsay) Goulding – 2001
Nurse Manager

Mindy is a nurse manager for an Oncology/Medical/Surgical unit in Southern California. She leads a team that gives compassionate care to those touched by cancer. They often care for patients who are in their final stages and help provide comfort care as they are nearing the end of their lives. Mindy’s company is a faith based organization that holds core values that align with her own which she considers one of the best aspects of her job. 

 

 

Sarah (Custalow) Parsons – 2005
Emergency Department RN

Sarah triages and cares for anyone who comes through the doors of the ER. Sometimes that looks as simple as putting a cool washcloth on a patient’s head while other times it’s life saving measures or resuscitation.

 

 

 

Steven Whelpley – 2003
Physician

Steven is an Emergency Medicine Physician who also specializes in Undersea Medicine and works with the Navy. This includes the treatment of decompression illness and diving accident cases and using hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat such conditions as carbon monoxide poisoning, gas gangrene, non-healing wounds, tissue damage from radiation, burns, and bone infections.

 

 

Morgan Schoonover – 2005
Flight Nurse

As a critical care transport nurse, Morgan delivers care to the critical patients at small rural hospitals who might be having a heart attack, stroke, or other medical emergencies and need to be transported to larger, more specialized facilities. She also provides support to EMS agencies responding to severe car accidents or traumas.
